Hiber is building a social platform for Gen Z to communicate and express themselves through games. We are growing and looking for a CTO. As CTO at Hiber you will have full technical responsibility and mandate. Your days will consist of planning and executing platform architecture, design, integrations, and system development, meeting with the rest of the management team to define goals, and managing the company’s technology road-map.

In the role as CTO, you have the opportunity to set the direction of our tech stack, building and managing a skilled team and developing and maintaining a proven-to-be very strong, growing social gaming product. Your tasks will be varied and shift from time to time - sometimes being focused on hands-on development and sometimes being focused on strategic technical decisions. No two days will be the same in this fast-paced startup environment.

To take on this role you need to have the right mix of constitution and stamina to grow a startup. We currently have a team of 22, and your role is central to our success. You are joining at an early stage where there are many fast actions and decisions to be made, as well as rapid changes and we are all supporting each other across disciplines.

We are looking for someone with strong experience as a developer, where you've worked with the whole technical stack. We are foremost looking for someone who is comfortable with C/C++, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5/CSS, Node.js, SQL and cloud-based solutions like AWS. Knowledge and experience of Graphics Programming and Machine Learning is also a plus.

Areas of responsibility:

  • Be a central part of building a solid and forward-looking engineering culture
  • Setting and executing the architecture and technology strategy, based on the company-wide vision and strategy
  • Leading a team of engineers, including managing performance, career progression and recruitment
  • Leading the company’s agile development process and making sure it’s aligned with the company’s other departments
  • Assessing, creating and maintaining excellent engineering practices
  • Budgeting responsibility for the tech team
  • Ensuring stability and performance of products including security
  • Vendor/supplier vetting, coordination and management
  • Hands-on development if needed

Our ideal candidate:

  • Has 10+ years of proven technology experience in social media or games, or similar
  • Has excellent leadership skills and loves to coach individuals and build strong teams
  • Is solutions oriented and seeks positive results while thriving in environments characterized by constant change, complex market conditions and creativity
  • Is an emphatic, inspirational and communicative leader injecting positive energy into your team
  • Is a strategic thinker and an excellent communicator, but also likes to get your hands dirty and dive into the nitti-gritty when needed
  • Is commercially minded and understands business requirements
  • Has a strong background in software development and architecture
  • Demonstrates excellence in building scaling platforms using agile development frameworks
  • Is a passionate games fan, as a creator or consumer
  • Mobile game development experience (iOS and Android)
  • Social platform experience including an understanding of the different challenges surrounding online and mobile communities
  • Strong strategic skills to take ownership of all technical aspects of Hiber.

We are mostly working remotely for the time being, but we meet every day on our Slack Standup meeting and we collaborate with a suite of tools that make it pretty seamless. We work hard and are independent, motivated, and solution oriented.

We do coffee, have our Fika, and Friday at 3PM is go time for popcorn, a Hiber tradition since Mattias and Michael founded the company.
